Hey there everyone! I’ve got a pretty fun post to share with you all today. I’ve teamed up with 40 bloggers in an epic challenge to find fun, quirky, and cool items at a thrift store. These items are then sent to a fellow blogging recipient where they’re challenged to make it amazing! We each only had $10-$15 to spend on our items, so it made it even more of a challenge! Hence the name, Swap It Like It’s Hot! Fun, right?!My good friend Angela from Blue i Style was chosen to send me a box of thrifted goodies and it was so exciting to open the box and see what she had found!
I didn’t take a picture of all of the items she sent, because (a) I didn’t think about it, and (b) I decided to only use these items for my project. I’ll be honest, I spent DAYS looking at those little blue rings and trying to figure out what the heck they were and what I could do with them. I started thinking of making a funky wind chime or gluing them together to make pillar candle holders. Then it suddenly hit me that they were napkin rings! It was a total #facepalm moment, but then it really got my creative juices flowing on how I could use them with this pumpkin.
For the pumpkin, I started by pulling all of the fruit and foliage off of the top. I had to use pliers on some pieces. Clearly these stems were never supposed to come off.
I wanted to turn this pumpkin into a pretty centerpiece, so I grabbed a knife and cut a hole around the entire top.
I pried out the center of the pumpkin and then grabbed some faux hydrangeas from my fall decor tote in the attic. I snipped off the long stems and left enough for me to stick them into the Styrofoam pumpkin. Dakota provided moral support while napping next to me. She always likes to be involved in my projects.
Now that I knew these blue guys were napkin rings, I decided to give them a coat of gold spray paint and use them for their intended purpose.
My finished pumpkin and painted napkin rings paired perfectly with the new plaid napkins and placemats from Target. It was precisely the excuse I needed to buy them!
It was so much fun coming up with ways to repurpose these thrifted items! Make sure you stop by Evey’s Creations to see the items I found for her and what she did with them!
