DIY and Home Decor Blog Swap – Meet Beth!

Hey guys! I am SO excited to be a guest on Katie’s blog today.

First off, let me give you a little background on me- I’m Beth from Birmingham, Alabama. I’ve been sharing my home and DIY projects for over a decade at my blog, Unskinny Boppy. When one of our mutual friends (holla at Stacy!) suggested we kick it old-school style and join together for a blog swap, I was all in. Sharing fun ideas with other like-minded folks is the thing I love most about blogging, so I’m excited to share some of my DIY and design ideas with you today.

Since Katie is addicted to DIY, I’m gonna assume you guys are, too? If so, we’re gonna get along just fine.

One of my most repinned DIY projects was this HUGE wooden star made from reclaimed wood. When I say huge, I mean HUGE. This sucker is 4 feet wide from point-to-point! We originally created this star to decorate a Christmas mantel, but now it hangs upstairs in my attic-turned-playroom and office space.

Which brings me to my favorite room makeovers! When we moved into our house, our attic was just a big empty shell, but I could see the potential instantly. This room is now my home office and the kid’s playroom area. Typically it’s a dumping ground for toys, but here are some pics when it was actually cleaned up. My favorite part of this room is the book nook we carved out in the back corner. We installed a laundry chute so my son could toss his dirty clothes directly into the laundry room, and to conceal the chute we built a bench seat and a set of bookcases that is the perfect book nook right under the eaves of the attic. When I saw that Katie has a garden bench made from an old Chevrolet tailgate I knew we were kindred spirits because I, too, like to decorate with tailgates. As I type this post, I’m sitting on my back porch enjoying a glorious spring day in central Alabama. This back porch is my latest project and my new favorite place in our house. For years our back porch has been sitting empty, all sad and forlorn, until I finally got the urge to decorate it this month.
