Hi Mike,

Yes, you can certainly rip down 2x4s to create 2×3 boards. Oftentimes it is what I do when I’m looking for my boards to have square edges and not rounded.

Hi Mike,

It could likely depend on where you live. My Home Depot location carries various widths of 1x cedar lumber. The 2x3s and 2x4s are redwood and are also available at my Home Depot location.

Would you suggest adjusting the measurements to work entirely with 2x4s? or to rip one side of a 2×4 down (obviously that’d leave one side with a square edge and and one with a rounded)
