Last week, I shared my rustic alpine Christmas mantel with you all and I probably teased you all a bit with the stencil I made for the sign. Sorry about that;) I made this sign from a much larger wooden wall hanging that I cut in half. I created a stencil on my Silhouette and today I’m sharing the free file with you so you can download it and create your own! You can either use this as a stencil for a painted sign, or you can adhere vinyl to wood, canvas, or whatever you like to make it. The only thing I ask is that you pretty please only use this for personal use.
To make the stencil for a large sign like mine, I went to the page settings and sized my page to be 18″ x 24″. Obviously this is larger than the cut surface, but it allowed me to size everything to fit exactly how I wanted. Once that was done, I ungrouped my design and cut and pasted the “Bright” onto a second document.
I cut out the stencil using vinyl and then placed it on my wood backing and painted the stencil on with chalk paint. It’s such a simple design, but I love how pretty it turned out. Especially on my mantel shelf.
Here’s the cut file you can download to create your own! Please remember, it is for personal use only.

Aaaaahhhh, sadly, another craft for which I would need a Silhouette machine. That does explain how you were able to quickly make a stencil! Thank you for sharing the details!

So sorry! Hopefully you can get one soon! It’s an amazing machine!

I don’t have a Silhouette so I print out what I want to transfer onto wood and either use chalk on the back side and trace the object/word or use transfer paper when the chalk is too light on a piece of wood. The advantage I’ve found to using the transfer method vs. a stencil is that I don’t get any of the stencil bleed. (And of course, it’s a lot cheaper than a $300 machine!)

That’s a great idea!

That’s how you made the stencil! I’m new to DIY and haven’t seen that. But boy oh boy I think I want one!! I think I’ll be a regular on your site. I love it and I see lots of fun things to learn. Thanks so much!

May i ask what font you used? I tried making a similar sign with a thinner font and the lines were too thin to cut. Im trying to make a Christmas sign for my bathroom and im afraid I wont have it up before the end of the year at this point.
Thanks,
Melody

I want to say the name of the font is called Pretty Script.
